Derek joined Don Mackey Architect in 2002.
Derek, who grew up in Portola, California, attended Feather River College in Quincy, Ca. to study Construction Technology. He then moved to Reno to work in the construction industry and eventually moved into a design position where he spent 4 years working for a local commercial developer.
After joining the firm, Derek developed his abilities in design and Building Information Technology (BIM). His knowledge of building systems provided the basis for accurate project modeling and construction detailing. Among his other design duties, Derek was also the office CAD/BIM manager.
Derek was an associate member of the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); a member of the Associated General Contractors (AGC); and an associate member of the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO).
In 2008, Derek became a Nevada Registered Residential Designer.
In December, 2011, Derek lost his 2-year battle with colon cancer. His impact on this Architectural firm will last forever. Derek remains a part of DMA in memoriam.
